Implementing Choosing Wisely in the Outpatient Setting:  A Case Study from Wisconsin​ featured Dr. Greg Blommel, the Medical Director of Quality and Outcomes for Froedtert and the Medical College Community Physicians. Hear Dr. Blommel's success stories from his participation in a Wisconsin Choosing Wisely Initiative that has a goal to achieve a 20% utilization reduction for three high-priority areas over three years through workflow changes and other notable strategies.

CCWC's Nancy Yedlin, MPH Receives Primary Care Leadership Award


Congratulations to the CT Choosing Wisely Collaborative's (CCWC) founding Chair, Nancy Yedlin, MPH, Vice President of The Donaghue Foundation who was honored to receive this award from the Connecticut Center for Primary Care.  The award was given to recognize Yedlin's work in establishing a multi-sector council in Connecticut, the Connecticut Choosing Wisely Collaborative, to create momentum for the spread of Choosing Wisely® activities throughout Connecticut.

Better Health Conference 2016:  It's Your Health, Take Charge

The 3rd Annual Better Health Conference ook place at Foxwoods Resort Casino.  This regional event focused on advancing the movement towards a more engaged consumer of healthcare and provided an opportunity for consumers to learn together with providers, administrators, and health plan personnel from national and local thought leaders about trends in the healthcare industry.  The CCWC hosted a breakout session entitled "Choosing Wisely ®:  Helping Providers, Employees and Consumers Make Smart and Effective Health Care Choices."

Choosing Wisely® CT Web+Connect Series #1

EHR Support for Choosing Wisely: Implementation Case Studies - Opportunities and Challenges was the first of three webinar events to support Connecticut clinicians and health system leaders in their efforts to implement Choosing Wisely® in practice and care settings. This session was moderated by Thomas P. Meehan, MD, MPH, Executive Director, Connecticut Center for Primary Care and Vice President, Research and Medical Education, ProHealth Physicians, Inc. Our presenters included Scott Weingarten, MD, MPH, Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Transformation Officer at Cedars Sinai Health System and Justin Stinnett-Donnelly, MD, MS, Hospitalist and Director of Clinical Informatics at The University of Vermont Health Network, Central Vermont Medical Center. The CCWC brought a group of doctors from around the state to support and recognize their interests and efforts in championing the Choosing Wisely initiative and took inspiration from the Choosing Wisely Champions program.

Success Factors for Better Healthcare Value - CT Business Group on Health 

CT Business Group on Health (A CCWC Member) dedicated their General Membership meeting to Choosing Wisely® and Value-based medicine. The session explored the opportunities and challenges with aligning incentives and other requirements for value-based strategies to be successful. Over 100 business leaders from around the state attended, and the program featured speakers from a large health insurance carrier and major health system in the state.

Better Health Conference 2017

The 4th Annual Better Health Conference focused on how healthcare providers can help patients have a more active role in their own health and healthcare. Various healthcare experts shared their experiences, best practices, and innovations in patient engagement. This year’s conference included informative breakout sessions focusing on behavioral health and social determinants of health, healthcare reform, tools to engage patients and health wellness and aging.

The breakout session was a big success for CCWC. The three speakers, Dr. Eric Barbanel from Crystal River Run Healthcare, Dr. Christopher Kolker from United Community and Family Services and Dr. L Scott Sussman from Yale-New Haven Hospital, talked about engaging providers and patients: lessons learned from implementing Choosing Wisely®. The estimated attendance was over 100 and this was the only breakout session with over 100 participants. ​

Patient Family Engagement Conference: Communicating Clearly Across the Continuum

Partner organizations from around the state gathered to learn how patient portals, portable medical records, and the current laws and regulations that govern patient access to information can be used to support the work of Patient and Family Advisory Councils. The Choosing Wisely Collaborative shared resource information from Choosing Wisely® and provided real life examples on how the campaign is engaging consumers and patients at the workplace, in the community and in clinical settings
